You can see newborn baby turtles being released into the sea or swim with the dolphins at Xcaret Park; there are also ideal sites for skin-diving and snorkeling with the greatest variety of marine plants and animals to be found in Mexico, in places such as Isla Mujeres and Cozumel, although you may be more interested in visiting one of the region's many "cenotes" (pools of fresh water fed by underground streams) or exploring an underground river.

While in Cancun you can also visit several major Mayan ruin sites such as those in Tulum; or you can visit the older part of Cancun “El Centro” for a change of pace. There are fewer hotels and time share rentals in El Centro as the majority of resort and hotel chains are concentrated on the beach, though you can find some vacation properties there. Cancun rentals, hotels, and resorts are all of a high quality, so you're not likely to be disappointed no matter where you stay.
